Catch up and start planning!

Today you should finish and turn in this ball drawing.  Your focus should be on crisp edges and smooth blending with all smudges erased!

Your final drawing for this unit will include 10 things about you.  Today you can start a list of 10 things and a quick sketch of each of those things drawn realistically.

Shaded Ball Drawing

Today we will be working on shading a simple form like a sphere. Without shading, forms often look flat and lifeless. Once you start playing around with shading, things begin to appear more life like. This website has some great directions for getting you started. Today in class we'll watch this video as well. This drawing will be due at the end of class.

White OUT! or Black OUT!

For this assignment, you'll only use word bubbles to create a short story. You won't show any background or characters. Please create a comic that has 6 panels or less. The gutters need to be even all around. You need to rule out your guidelines on all of the text boxes. All pencil lines need to be erased completely. When you ink it, make sure and use a variety of widths in order to create interest.

Tutorial Tuesday

Today we'll be watching and doing this tutorial.  We'll also learn how to letter comics.  Some tips we'll cover for lettering are...

Here are some tips on lettering and word balloons! Thank you Zander!

To Do: spend some time working on lettering. You could use song lyrics, or made up nonsense. The point is using half an hour to practice your lettering and balloon usage. HAVE FUN!

1.  Use a notecard for spacing.
2.  Almost always letter with upper case letters. This will remind you to not use your typical writing.  Lettering needs to be different.
3.  Don't let any sections of your letters touch.
4.  Your sentences should be centered.
5.  Do your balloons last.
